Just got a message re BK's film from BulliesOut to say they had no knowledge of the film and they found out by someone linking my entry to them. BK had no idea if it wasn't, although the director understood he had permission, according to him anyway. But we could be gullible. We are, naturally, naive and trusting souls. Anyway, bit upset and confused. Did any of my flist send them the link? Film is being taken down from YT now and we're feeling sad and confused! Sorry for misleading you guys :(

No idea - but I hope you get some more definite information. Sad for BK.

Not feeling happy at all with BulliesOut. They haven't got back to me, but I have more info from the director, who was an ambassador for them at his uni, and is on the spectrum, and he meant it was a film that they could use (and so was for them, in his asd brain!). In fact, every one of the young people involved in making the film was on the spectrum and worked hard. There is nothing in the film which would not be found on a drama by CBBC or CITV and the only complaint they got was from someone who saw my journal and sent them the link to my entry. They have not even bothered to watch the film themselves. I am very hurt that whoever, on my flist, did this, could not message me and ask for a trigger warning for whatever (bullying? suicide? I mean, that was what the film was about, so shock, horror, it contained what is was about in it!!!). It actually feels a little like bullying, but I am probably being oversensitive!

Are you sure you locked your post? Either you didn't, or someone shared the link by copy/pasting it with someone they thought they could trust. It doesn't have to be one of your f'list that reported it. Maybe one of their f'list could be the culprit. I agree it's pretty horrible - and the BulliesOut are actually behaving like bullies themselves.

I thought I did! I usually do, unless I'm sharing it on fb. but I just checked and I didn't. so it could be a friend of a friend. But it still seems to be a bit excessive to make a complain that it was 'offensive' - I mean, it was dealing with bullying, obviously the bullies would not be nice!

If you didn't, then they could have shared it on FB and someone somewhere could have disliked it... Or it could have fallen foul of what is apparently some weird way of screening things on YouTube where things are taken down for being 'offensive' because, as you say, they are about offensive things. At least you don't need to blame your f'list, which must be comforting.

Has anyone approached BulliesOut with a reasoned explanation?

It's fine on YT, in fact it's still up, the director just removed it from the search engine and the reference to BulliesOut. And they were very definitive about the link to it coming through being sent a link to my entry on here.

I have. The director have. Both of us have been ignored! I'm not very impressed with them as a charity now.

No, well, that's kind of bullying in itself!! Someone needs to point that out to them!

Sorry I'm not around much - we're in Portugal with very erratic internet. I only got back onto FB a couple of days ago.

I hope so too. Has any additional information been gathered in the month since this post went up?

I'm bummed for BK as it's a good little film and I can't see any reason why BulliesOut would be so mean about it. The only explanation I could come up with is that reluctance of authors and filmmakers against exposing themselves to other people's related works for fear that they themselves will be accused of intellectual theft if they coincidentally create a similar work. All the same, I think it would have been much better for everyone if they looked at the film and accepted or rejected it for concrete reasons.

Personally I found it well acted (I finally had the chance to see an archived copy yesterday afternoon) and though BK did an outstanding job. All the kids did a good job but she was remarkable. I sure hope she can get her medical issues sorted as she has serious talent and it would be a shame if she can't share it with the world.

Sadly no. they've not replied to my email, nor responded to the director at all. They definitely over-reacted without giving it proper consideration. the film is still on YT though, he just removed it from the search engine and took down the reference to BulliesOut. He is still trying to get it shown uncut at local film festivals at the very least.

Thank you for watching and commenting though. BK is still convinced she is rubbish, but I think she has a real talent. She is awesome on stage, she has real presence (and I've been told that by professionals who have come to watch their own children over the years). she didn't like the bitty, broken process of film-making and is much more focused on musical theatre and stage management as a back up. she has two part time jobs, one as a teaching assistant in the class she started in seven years ago and one with helping out with little ones and running back stage with another class. She is also making all the props for the youth theatre she is involved in. the house is full of boxes and other stuff. she has made awesome swords and daggers from cardboard and pva glue and paint that look very real under stage lights and make a clashing noise (average age of cast is 8-10 so you can't trust them with anything more substantial!) as well as battle axes from plastic and foam. I'm so proud of her :)

You are right, if only she could get her health sorted. she was doing so well with pacing herself and the meds, but two days ago has come crashing down to the worse of the symptoms, blinding headaches, vomiting, vertigo, balance and steering problems. She's had so many falls and walking into walls I've lost count! We've had a mini heatwave so I'm wondering if it is that, when it goes about 30 degrees Celsius it always makes me worst.
